North Carolina Hiking

If you're looking to have a great outdoor experience during your stay at Smoky View Cottages and RV Resort, you don't have to look very far. The Great Smoky Mountains will be your very own big back yard during your visit! Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a wonderful way to enjoy Mother Nature's beautiful bounty and there are hiking trails of all levels ranging from easy to strenuous. So grab a day pack and begin exploring!

Rough Fork Trail (Easy)

This 6.5 mile hike follows a stream along a gravel road, transforms to a narrow footpath through an impressive forest, and then follows a railroad grade for several miles. This makes a wonderful, short day hike.

Caldwell Fork Trail (Easy)

This trail gains 1,300 feet in elevation and follows a mountain stream for nearly 5 miles. The prettiest sections are on Boogerman Trail or at the upper end of the trail near the "Big Poplars." The largest of the trees is 8 feet in diameter!

Hemphill Bald - Double Gap Trail (Moderate)

This low ridge trail ascends 1,800 feet in 8.5 miles. There are several wonderful lookouts along this trail and, although it is used often by horses, it is generally in good condition.

Buckeye Ridge Trail (Moderate)

This trail winds 5.4 miles through grassy fields and wooded areas. Cold Springs Creek flows through the woods on its way to the Pigeon River. Trails combine with forest service roads to provide loop opportunities.

Cherry Creek Trail (Strenuous)

This short, 1.6 mile trail is steep and rocky and features some tight switchbacks. Grassy patches of Max Patch Mountain crown the area.

Big Fork Ridge Trail (Strenuous)

This low ridge trail is in the middle of Cataloochee Valley and links Caldwell Fork and Rough Fork. This is a moderate 3-mile stretch.

The Great Smoky Mountains offer an infinite possibility of North Carolina Hiking trails. This is just one of the wonderful activities you can experience during your visit to Smoky View Cottages and RV Resort. There are tons of other activities so if you're looking for a central place to stay while enjoying Whitewater Rafting NC, Maggie Valley NC Golf, NC Trout Fishing and Maggie Valley Skiing, Smoky View is the place for you!
